Mastering in-line monitoring

By Modern Plastics Editorial Staff

The Profilemaster provides in-line monitoring of profiles and shapes. It is a modular, non-contact measuring system that can handle extruded plastics, rubber, elastomers, and composite materials. It produces a record of relevant dimensions, angles, radii. Start-up times and scrap rates can be reduced by including this unit on an extrusion line says the manufacturer. It utilizes a laser-based light section principle in combination with CCD cameras. A contour-matching algorithm is used to compare data points with the coordinates of a CAD drawing. Up to six laser/camera modules can be combined to cover all required dimensions of a product. Zumbach Electronic AG, Orpund, Switzerland; +41 32-356-0400; www.zumbach.com
